- Register the domain first. It's the cheapest and most contested piece. Grab it on Namecheap before you start the state filing — registration takes days, a domain takes minutes.
- File with the California Secretary of State. Register your LLC or corporation under the name you just cleared.
- Claim the social handleson every platform, including the ones you don't plan to use yet.

How do I check if a business name is already taken in California?

Does a clear California register mean I own the name?
No. A state register only clears the name for filing within California. It does not grant trademark rights, and it does not stop someone in another state from using the same name. For nationwide rights you need a federal trademark.
